We've had this software for 9 months, and I have rewritten our entire handbook (71 pages) in it. Having template policies that comply with law is really nice, and having recommendations on policies to include is really nice. The software helps you organize your policies into sections, and automatically creates a table of contents.

However, formatting functions are EXTREMELY limited, making the final product difficult to read and appear less than professional:
- you can't control page breaks
- you can't control line spacing
- the online version does have links from the Table of Contents to the various policies, but instead of presenting each policy on a separate page, all the policies run together, one after the other - they have headers, but still not optimal reading
- there is no index function
- the only search function is the one in your web browser

In addition, there is no user manual or online help. The only way to obtain help is to contact BLR, and while the reps have been very nice, they are not always very knowledgeable.

I produced our Company Handbook in 2 days!! What used to take weeks, took minutes with research and appropriately written articles provided by the HB Builder and associated law firm. For less than a dollar a day, you receive updates as occurring that take only a few minutes to incorporate and republish. We recently experienced an NLRB review of our old Handbook--it wasn't pretty as they criticized our "overly broad" language in several of our articles. The HB Builder provided language compliant with Federal and State Requirements to fix our problems. The HB Builder also lets you add (or actually adds for you) any variations in state laws for states you select--all in one package. Needless to say my employee handbook carpal tunnel syndrome is healing nicely thanks to SHRM Employee Handbook Builder. It pays for itself simply by being web-accessible--no printing necessary. Once you are in the builder is easily navigated. The two major issues are the ability to log into the site and what information can be added to your handbook.

Logging in can not be done from the BLR site. You need to be logged into SHRM and go through a series of links. The link sent to me from BLR for the shortcut and the link listed in the purchased from SHRM Store do not work.

Adding information in a format other than text is impossible (as stated by the BLR Tech Support Team). I have an image of an emergency evacuation plan and it can not be uploaded/pasted and there for would not be part of the table of contents. I can print the individual documents I want added but the published version on line will be incomplete. (Posted on 2/15/2017)
