Building on the "Detection of Deception" course, this module focuses on the quality of the questions asked during interviews. This module teaches how to create and ask questions to maximize the quality of the information collected. The question formulation techniques covered in this module, combined with the methodology presented in the "Detection of Deception" course, provide a framework and process to create and ask questions that are most effective in enabling us to identify deceptive behavior, and to thereby make better critical decisions. You will analyze the police video case study and examine whether the police officer's questions were effective.

Topics include:

  • Psychology behind questions
  • Question types such as open-ended, close-ended, presumptive and bait questions, and follow-up questions
  • How to formulate the right questions and avoid bad questions
  • How to manage deception using the techniques for dealing with deception
  • How to prepare for and conduct an interview with an untruthful person

Non-member: $245 per report

Q: Is there a discount if I buy more than one report?
A: Because of the savings SHRM can offer through our partnership with Salary.com, discounts are currently not offered for purchasing more than 1 report.


Q: Do I have to be a member to buy reports through SHRM?
A: No, you do not have to be a SHRM member to buy a report, but SHRM members receive a 10% discount.

Q: How do I purchase a report?
A: To purchase a report, follow these steps:

  2. Determine if the compensation data is available.
  3. Input the number of reports you need in the quantity box up top.
  4. Click the "Add to Cart" button.

A link that will give you access to CompAnalyst to run your report(s) will be provided to you on the Confirmation page, as well as in the Confirmation email.

A: The report is downloadable in PDF and Excel format.

Q: How long can I have access to the report(s)?
A: Because you are buying a single report and not access to an entire database, you are able to download and keep the report that you have bought. NOTE: The CompAnalyst platform is constantly updated with new information. You will need to use a credit to update any reports you've already downloaded.

Q: In which ways can I customize my compensation data?
