How to Determine Which Seminar Best Suits Your Professional Development Needs

In addition to a thorough knowledge of HR concepts and requirements, it’s crucial that HR professionals develop the behavioral competencies required to effectively apply that knowledge in the modern workplace to support organizational goals.

SHRM has developed the SHRM Body of Competency & Knowledge™ (SHRM BoCK™), which defines eight key behavioral competencies and one technical competency: Leadership & Navigation, Ethical Practice, Business Acumen, Relationship Management, Consultation, Critical Evaluation, Global & Cultural Effectiveness, Communication, and HR Expertise (HR Knowledge).

The SHRM BoCK further defines HR Expertise (HR Knowledge) by grouping common themes within this technical competency into four broad knowledge domains: People, Organization, Workplace and Strategy. These four domains are associated with the HR functional areas of knowledge—The knowledge required to perform a specific HR activity.

These key competencies are the foundation of successful HR practice. And SHRM Seminars are designed to develop these competencies in HR professionals of all career-levels.

Follow these steps to find a SHRM Seminar:

  • 1. Determine the Knowledge Domain or Functional Area on which you wish to focus.
  • 2. Identify the key HR competencies you wish to develop.
  • 3. Find a SHRM Seminar that meet(s) your criteria.
  • 4. Ensure that the listed Who Should Attend description is relevant to you and your role.
  • 5. Register!
