Program Overview
Gain the critical knowledge necessary to help reduce costs, avoid potential lawsuits, and improve your ability to handle challenging HR issues. This program is ideal if you are just starting out in the HR profession, perform HR duties as a part of a non-HR job, or are looking for an effective way to boost your employee management skills. Recently updated content reflects changes in legislation and provides an overview of HR roles and responsibilities.

  • Understand key pieces of federal legislation that impact HR.
  • Understand the role of the EEOC and its investigatory process.
  • Improve your employee recruitment and selection process to help avoid legal pitfalls.
  • Understand the importance of effectively communicating base pay, incentive compensation, and benefits information to staff at all levels.
  • Gain knowledge of employee orientation, onboarding, and training and development.
  • Learn the process, methods and purpose of performance appraisals.

Transfers and Cancellation

Transfers


Transfers are permitted one time only within the calendar year. Transfer requests must be submitted in writing via e-mail or fax, no later than 10 business days before the program start date. You may transfer into another program that will be held before December 31, 2015. If you are unable to attend the program to which you transfer, you may send a replacement. If you are unable to send a replacement, you forfeit your registration fee. All transfers must be made in writing using our online form or can be faxed to +1.703.535.6490.

Cancellation


All cancellations must be in writing using our online form or can be faxed to +1.703.535.6490. Should the program be cancelled, SHRM is not responsible for any penalty incurred by purchasing a nonrefundable airline ticket or related travel/personal costs. Confirmed registrants may cancel and receive a full refund minus a $250 administrative fee up to 10 business days before the program. If you find that you are unable to attend and it is less than 10 business days before the program start date, you may send a replacement to attend in your place. If you are unable to send a replacement, you forfeit your registration fee.
Special note:
Participants who cancel their registration for any PHR/SPHR Certification Preparation (3 days), the GPHR Certification Preparation (3 days), the California Certification Preparation (2 days), the Virtual Certification Preparation (6–7 weeks) or the Virtual Essentials of HR Management (4 weeks) programs should follow the same guidelines above, except you will have to return the SHRM Learning System for PHR/SPHR, SHRM Learning System for GPHR, SHRM California Learning System, or SHRM Essentials of HR Management unopened; otherwise, you will be charged the purchase price of $695 SHRM Member/$870 Nonmember for the SHRM Learning System for PHR/SPHR or SHRM Learning System for GPHR; the purchase price of $265 for SHRM Member/$295 Nonmember for the SHRM California Learning System; or the purchase price of $330 SHRM Member/$395 Nonmember for the SHRM Essentials of HR Management. Your refund will be equal to the registration fee, minus the applicable cost of the tools, minus a $250 administrative fee.
